Timing Chains &
Wetbelt Replacement

Expert replacement of one of the most critical components in your engine — protecting you from catastrophic and costly failure.

What Is a Timing Chain or Wetbelt?

The timing chain (or timing belt) synchronises the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft(s), ensuring the engine's valves open and close at precisely the right moment during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes. If this synchronisation is lost — even momentarily — the results can be catastrophic: bent valves, damaged pistons, and in the worst cases, a completely destroyed engine.

A wetbelt is a newer design used by several manufacturers (notably Ford EcoBoost engines, Renault, and Nissan) where a rubber timing belt runs inside the engine, submerged in oil. Despite being a belt rather than a chain, it behaves similarly but has its own specific replacement intervals and failure modes.

What Our Timing Chain/Wetbelt Service Includes

  • Full timing system inspection — chain/belt, tensioners, guides and sprockets
  • Timing chain or wetbelt replacement with OEM-quality components
  • Timing chain tensioner and guide replacement (always done alongside chain)
  • Camshaft and crankshaft phaser inspection and replacement where required
  • Oil change immediately after wetbelt replacement (mandatory — old oil contaminates the new belt)
  • Oil pump chain inspection and replacement where applicable
  • Timing verification — engine timed correctly post-replacement
  • Full road test and diagnostic scan before handover

Warning Signs of Timing Chain Problems

Don't ignore these symptoms — they can escalate from a minor issue to total engine failure very quickly:

Commonly Affected Vehicles

Timing chain and wetbelt issues are well-documented on many popular vehicles. We have particular experience with:

Why Act Early?

A timing chain replacement carried out before failure costs a fraction of the repair bill after a chain snap. Once the chain jumps or snaps, the engine often suffers valve and piston damage that can run into thousands of pounds — sometimes more than the vehicle is worth.

If your car is known to be susceptible to timing chain issues, or if you're hearing any rattling from the engine, bring it to us for an inspection. We'll give you an honest assessment and a clear quote before any work begins.

Hearing a rattle on start-up?

Don't wait — get it inspected before it becomes a write-off.
